before we begin -- because, inevitably, i am going to take sides -- i would like to make it clear that i do not want hamas sending bombs into israel as much as i oppose israeli tactics to curb them. in my ideal world, in fact, there would be no weapons of destruction, no war and no bloodshed. reality, of course, is another thing.
the reason for this blog is to give vent to my frustration that was triggered by reading a comment in facebook. someone had the audacity to quote unquote the lyrics to "fuck the middle east"... don't get me wrong. i am all for freedom of speech: i understand that all of us are entitled to our own opinions, or, as it happens to be in this case, our own sense of humour. but please, right in the middle of a crisis, when hundreds are dying for no fault of theirs, how callous could one get to quote downright vicious things? things that even in times of peace are not worth repeating? and then laugh it off as a joke?
sometimes i wish i was anything but a human being. we have come so far and yet have reached nowhere.
