fair and lovely, dark and ugly

honestly, this is my third attempt at blogging. i am keeping my fingers crossed that i will take this through this time. for someone who peddles words, i have a big block when it comes to writing without deadlines.
but to begin with, i do have a bone to pick. this refers to a particular fairness cream brand in india that goes a step further in its attempt to capture a secure place in the competitive fairness cream market. thematically, the advertisement follows the usual pattern -- a dark therefore ugly duckling turn into a fair therefore lovely swan, thanks to the fairness cream. but what caught my attention was the tagline: evolve. hello! what are they trying to say?
i remember the days when i used to stand in front of the mirror convinced that i am ugly because i am dark. now these capitalist jackals are out to convince countless young and impressionable minds that you are not a fully evolved human being if you are dark! where will this end?
